What is a good commuter or road bike for around $300-400?
I’m looking for something in the $300-400 range, used is perfectly fine. I have an old Mongoose with some random bits and pieces that my dad used to ride, and that I’ve had since I was something like…6? I’m 22 now so you can guess how old the bike is. It still works great, I’ve loved that thing to death, and I won’t get rid of it – I just need a “newer” alternative to possibly be a more all-around commuter to and from Texas Wesleyan School of Law when I move to Fort Worth.
I’m a moderate biker, probably not in the shape I’d LIKE to be in for using my bike as a commuter, but with the high gas prices an alternative must be sought to my 20-gallon Frontier truck.
A hybrid makes a good commuter. You should be able to find a suitable one in your price range. Go to your local bike shop and tell them where and how you want to ride and your budget. They will match you up with the kind of bike that fits your needs and then adjust it to fit you. Test ride the bike. Then go other places and test ride what they have to offer. One bike will fit you and feel better than the others. You’ll be able to tell that very soon after sitting on the seat and riding for just a few minutes. Buy that bike. It is the one that you will enjoy the most. Put aside any pre-conceived notions about brand names. The business is so competitive today that any two bikes at the same price point are very likely to be equivalent values. Make that competition work for you.
