Madone Trek vs. 2.1?
Ok…I’ve fallen in love with the 4.5 Madone, but I want to commute on it as well doing long rides on the weekends. Price is a bit of a concern, but more importantly, I’m worried the Madone won’t handle the everyday commuting…not sure if daily wear and tear is what it was built for. I don’t want to blow 2 grand on a bike that won’t hold up. Alternatively, I like the 2.1 even though its not as sweet looking. I need someone to give me an objective oppinion since I’m hooked on the Madone. I’m not worried about storing the bike at work since it will be in my office and I’m wearing a small backpack so no need for racks. I’ve ridden both and I do favor the Madone, but the 2.1 isn’t bad. Just want to make a realistic decision. ANY help would be most appreciated! PLEASE HELP!!!!
Yep….the Madone is a bonafide racing bike. It has good parts on it that will stand up to a lot of use and abuse. You may want to get a second set of durable wheels and tires for commuting, though….save the good ones for your pleasure rides. You can get a second wheelset with tires for $200 or less and it only takes a minute to switch them out.
Honestly, either bike will do just fine, but if you like the Madone and don’t mind the big price difference, it’s a sweet bike!
