How high should my handlebars be on my mountain bike?
I’m using the bike for commuting on city roads and sidewalks. Is it okay if the handlebars are raised slightly above the seat, or would that look stupid? Should they be level with the seat? I know it would probably be more comfortable if they were higher, but I don’t want to sacrifice speed.
I for one like the handlebars to be the same height as the seat. If it were slightly higher, that would work for me. I can always lower.
Don’t worry about looks. Not important.
If you are comfortable, you will not sacrifice speed. If I want to go fast, I tuck down on the aero-bars.
Vast majority of bikes will not be able to have the bars the same height as the seat. Threadless head sets are the culprit. One the steerer tube is cut, that is it. High rise stems are available, but generally are not enough.
My custom frame tandem uses a 9″ long head tube. I am 6′1″.
Good Luck and my thumbs up for commuting by bicycle.
