california carpool lane fine
First Speeding Ticket…How much?

ive never had a ticket for anything every before and have never been in any kind of trouble. does that play a fact into how much I may have to pay on my ticket? i got one today for speeding on the 91 freeway and driving solo in the carpool lane. i dont usually do this but i was running late for work and my job trips if ur even a min late. i live in orange county california….so does anyone know what i may be looking at for fines??

There is no such thing as a “prayer for judgment” (whatever that may be) in California. It is impossible to tell what your total fine will be, since the fine for speeding is based upon the mph over the limit. But, assuming that you were not going over 80, the fine for speeding would be a bit over $200, and the carpool lane violation over $425 (ouch). The carpool lane violation is not a point, but the speeding is, so you may want to go to traffic school to keep it off your record. That can cost up to $50 more.

ADD: It appears that at least $30 has been added to the cost of tickets in August, 2009.
