MINICUP RACING SET UP TIPs?
anybody have any ideas or “secrets” they want to share with me on setting up minicup cars? i was a rookie this year at Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts. Still trying to find ways to get that extra but of speed! P.S. i love a loose car as long as speed comes with it. THANKS IN ADVANCE
minicup is actually is a scale model car of a latemodel stock car. but thanks for the suggestions, some of the same suggestions could apply
I don’t specifically know what minicup racing at Seekonk speedway is but I am going to assume you are racing Mini Coopers. I don’t know what the series allows for modifications but here are some things that you can do for any car:
With any car you induce more oversteer (ie make it loose) by making the suspension harder in the rear as compared to the front. The easiest way is to increase your rear tire pressure compared to the front tires by a few psi. Never overinflate any tire by going beyond the max pressure imprinted on the tire sidewall.
If the series allows then you should get a thicker or stronger rear anti-roll bar for the suspension. If there aren’t ones available for your car then go to an automotive speed shop or fabricator and get a custom made bar.
Be careful about what you do and how far you with adjustments because you don’t want a car that goes into snap oversteer all of the time or is in such a state of oversteer that is is difficult to recover the car from the slide. What you really want is a car that has neutral handling but since front wheel drive cars naturally understeer then by making the car more loose you are counteracting that effect.
By making the car loose is will help it change directions faster which may make it turn faster and allow you to carry more speed through the turns but if you are losing out in the straighaways then you need to be able to accelerate faster.
