Got a question about an Minor In Consumption?
I live in Texas and I was at a college party, when the police just ran in and separated everyone into lines of who had, and had not been drinking. My buddy and I had maybe a beer if that when they gave us the MIC ticket. We fessed up to having a beer. We had no plans of driving home that night, instead we were going to use the university carpool service. My question is, does anyone know how much the ticket will run, and what else will come with it? I have heard rumors of $250 – $1,000 and loss of license, and stuff like that. I am 19 and this is something I don’t want my parents to know about. Is this possible to do? And is an attorney really worth the cost? I called a lawyer that works with a lot of underage drinking cases, and he wanted $1,000 to represent me in court.
Thanks for the help.
In Texas, MIC is punishable with a fine up to $2000 and 180 days in jail. The court may also order community service and suspend your license.
Given the potential severity of the punishment, I’m not sure exactly what your reason for not hiring an attorney is. Is saving money for an attorney worth the risk of having a record, paying a huge fine, and spending time in jail? No offense, but I don’t get your line of thinking.
In any case, I suggest you shop around with different attorneys. If you want your car fixed, you usually check out a few different mechanics to get multiple quotes. You should do the same with an attorney.
