Got the Job Offer , but there is a problem….HELP?
Yesterday got offered a base of 38k / 10 days paid vacation /benefits/ possible 6k in incentives yearly..etc at a pretty big media svc’s co. in L.A. doing I.T. Consulting type work.
The BASE for this position (in L.A) should be at least 45k. according to every source, and my current co. even pays 18c per mile for my commute if i carpool.
I messed up when the interviewer caught me off guard on the way out the door and asked me what i made . I just kinda spit out 35 – 45k. Should have said 42-52k.
How do i get them to sweeten the pot and close the gap. How do i accept the offer with “a few modifications”. My experience warrants it! Help!
sweetbr… I havent accepted. isnt this the time to negotiate? I did give him a range…
Yes..i should have said, i recieved the offer over the phone and we agreed that i would look it over and give a response on Monday.
Being a former recruiter I know that if I pay someone less that what they had in mind I know that person will be very unhappy in their job and it will reflect in their work. If this interviewer is experienced as everyone here is saying then he/she knows that you will make a counteroffer.
On Monday tell him/her that you thought about the salary and made a fair assessment of your value/worth and experience and $50k is fair, but you are willing to hear what he/she had in mind.
-Being a recruiter and now a claims adjuster dealing with attorneys on bodily injury claims, I am used to offers and counteroffers as part of the business. If you are the candidate they want then they will take your counteroffer into consideration.
Remember, this is business and your livelihood will be affected by this.
Good Luck!
