Should I be entitled for my mileage reimbursement?
I am going for training outside of my local area. I was supposed to receive 37 cents per mile reimbursement. I made arrangements with another employee to carpool and save gas expenses. We shared this with the regional supervisor during a brief chat and he decided that he could not pay me the mileage reimbursement as I wasn’t driving. He will be paying it instead to my friend.
Why would you share this with a supervisor? Bad bad bad. Honesty is a good policy, but too much information always hurts.
Reimbursement is payback for expenses associated with the task at hand, in this case the costs of travel. Gas, wear & tear, etc. Since you’re a passenger, you’re not subject to any expenses. If anything you’re adding to the wear & tear of the vehicle as well as adding weight, which lowers the fuel efficiency of the vehicle; essentially increasing the cost of travel. So no, I would have to say you aer not entitled to reimbursement.
