Back to School
Well, it is Friday and I don’t know about you but I am very ready for the weekend. My kids have already started back to school and this was their first full week. I am still trying to get back into the swing of carpooling, homework, signing permissions slip and the list goes on. As I waited in the carpool line to pick my kids up from school today, I watched the high school girls as the chatted in groups and headed off to wherever it was that they needed to go. I was curious as to what was “in style” for that age group in the way of jewelry. It has definitely been quite a few years since I have been that age!
I remember when I was starting as a sophomore in high school and I thought I was the coolest because I had just gotten this gold plated pocket watch that was on a big gold plated necklace. The watch had a face that showed a sun when it was day and then rotated to a moon face when it was night. I am sorry to say that I still own that piece of jewelry and it sits in my jewelry box as a reminder of what was long ago. Sorry for the trip down memory lane, but it prompted me to do a little research on what the new back to school jewelry trends are for this year.
I came away with a few different trends. First of all, sterling silver is the choice of metal. The girls are wearing it in the form of necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings. Bangles are very popular as well as brightly colored cuff bracelets. One thing that continues to be popular among the teenage crowd is beads, beads and more beads!
Trader Lou has a huge selection of beads. Why not try your hand at designing that perfect necklace for your first day back at school. Having pearls or beads on strips of leather with silver closures is also popular as it can be worn with really casual stuff or dressed up. Pearls also come in several colors and we offer a great selection. Just go to www.traderlou.com and type in freshwater pearl strands in the search box. We have all the supplies to complete any jewelry project you like.
I hope these ideas were helpful as you plan for back to school, either for yourself or for your teenagers. It might be fun to get together with your girlfriends and have a jewelry making party before school starts! Have a great weekend.
