carpool virginia
Are there any exceptions in Virginia that allow you to drive more than 1 person in your first year of driving?

I want to carpool in to school this year but there is a law in Virginia that says you can’t take more than one person in your car in your first year of driving. Are there any exceptions for if you are driving to school or a school sponsored event?

I don’t know about VA, but other places that have laws like this, the exception is of you have someone over a certain age with you (like over 25).

These laws are not in place just to hassle teens. They are they for your protection. You just get your license, and you still need to learn a lot about driving. having more than one person can be a distraction you don’t know how to deal with right now.

Just be patient. You’ll have a lot of years driving with a car full of people once you are old enough.
