Why can’t the U.S. put together a decent train system?
It drives me crazy that you can get around other countries quite nicely on the train. But in the U.S., if you aren’t on the east coast, train service is pretty horrible. If I want to go from my home in Indianapolis to Detroit ( a 4 hour drive), the only scheduled train is to take a bus to Chicago, and then a train a midnight. Is the AUTO Industry at fault (they don’t like commutuer trains – did you know there is no commuter trains in Detroit?).
Its true that we dont have good mass transit in this country – Some cities do, but very few. I just moved from houston, where they had a railway in place that they could have transofrmed into public transport, but they opted to widen the I-10 freeway instead, now they have to widen it again because of the growth in the city – if they had created a mass transit system from the beginning they woudlnt have to spend the loads of monies they are on a huge expansion of the freeway.
I would love to be able to partake in public transport, but unfortunately we dont really have a comprehensive way to get around.
