More cycle gear questions >.
So in about 8 months I will be buying my first bike. I am not sure about what kind of gear is necessary. I will likely get a flip up helmet, for good protection and practicality. As far as gloves and boots go I’ll probably be able to figure those out as well. My question will lie in the jacket and pants. I will be getting a more sport-like bike (Hyosung GT250R).. don’t diss the 250.. It is purely for better gas for the daily commute to work and what-not.
I’m thinking I want to avoid one piece suits.. seem uncomfortable. As for two pieces, is it awkward walking around in cycle pants if you go to the mall or something? Of course I will worry about my safety while riding first, but I also don’t want to look like a goober in public. Any suggestions?
If I am to wear jeans I would probably get myself something like these to wear under it.

I always wear motorcycle trousers whenever I am on the bike. I have the ones with knee protection too (I slipped on a wet manhole cover one time when i wasn’t wearing them and badly bruised both my knees).
They are comfortable, but they are hot (unless you take out the thermal layer and don’t wear trousers underneath them).
It would be a bit awkward walking around in the trousers for too long but it is possible. The heat would be the main issue. The ones I have are comfortable and I often wear them around the house if I have just finished riding home
Avoid one piece suits unless you are going on a track. They look great, but the problem is that they are almost always worn by posers. Not only that, if you get warm, you can’t take part of them off. They were described by one motoring journalist here as leather romper suits and the name has stuck.
More cycle commuting…
