How far can you go outside of Chicago and still have an acceptable daily commute to the city?
I am looking at moving to the Chicago area and want to know how far out I can look for buying a house. My budget is small (under 200,000) and I am looking to buy a nice house in a nice neighborhood. Therefore, I have to avoid anywhere directly in the city, and many of the suburbs. How far west can I go? Joliet? How does the commute to downtown Chicago look from Joliet? How far into Indiana can I go and still keep a daily commute under an hour, in traffic (I realize that there is currently construction going on coming from Indiana and that is slowing things down)?
The farther west you go the cheaper the houses. For your amount you might want to try Sugar Grove which is past Aurora. Metra takes about 60 minutes if you catch and express train.
