Student looking for an apartment in / near New York?
I am a 20 year old daughter and I go to NYU. I'm looking a room or an apartment. I looked on Craigslist and villagevoice.com, but I'm not very familiar with him the different neighborhoods. I know that some parts of Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Inwood / Washington Heights and Harlem are "safe," I do not know where. I just want a neighborhood with a decent ride when I'm not going to shoot in the street. It need not be Pleasantville, it just needs to be affordable and some Except for my father will not frown * too * well. So, roughly, what neighborhoods are good options? Street boundary would be useful.
See this site: http://www.forgotten-ny.com/NEIGHBORHOODS/neighborhoodhomepage/neighborhoods.html examines a large number of neighborhoods in NYC in detail. I lived in New York all my life and some of the premises Forgotten NY, I've never been to.
Anyway, if you're going to commute to NYU you must take into account the public transport options (you'd be mad to get to Manhattan by car). If you live outside of Manhattan, it is preferable to live near a subway line, as neighborhoods along Queens Boulevard, where you can jump on an E or F train that will take you to Manhattan in less an hour. (Personally, I like the Forest Hills / Kew Gardens area in Queens – takes an hour to get to Manhattan, but close enough to "Pleasantville."). Hope this helps.
