commute solutions
im joinig the Australian army soon but have a simple question about commuting to work?

i live on the central coast which is 2 hours away from sydney so how will get to work. there is a army reserve depot base 10 minutes from where i live so i was wandering if i could report there but im not sure.

the only other solution is to live on base but i don’t wanna do that

also is the average working hours 9 to 5 because if so i could easily commute by train

Are you joining the regular Army as a full-time soldier?

You won’t be working at your local Reserve unit unless you are a Reservist who opted to work there, or are a full time non-combat soldier who was posted to work there in a support role.

No doubt members of your chain of command would express some concerns about you travelling far to work – it’s preferable you live on base, or at least in a nearby neighborhood.

Working hours aren’t fixed – you’ll usually have to show up earlier than that in the morning for ‘first parade’ and unit PT. You’ll often be asked to come earlier than public transport starts, and stay later than public transport ends. Taking your ironed uniforms, webbing, pack and any other gear on public transport will be impractical. C’mon, living at your posting isn’t terrible, plus you’ll have plenty of opportunity to visit home.
