commuting on a bicycle
What bike should I buy?

I'm considering buying a bicycle to get to work. My path is 6 miles each way on flat roads (no hills) which are generally good conditions, although I may have to scramble on the shoulder budding in time to avoid congestion. I'm 5'10, 175 lbs, and 46 years old. I am not a novice cycler: I rode for years, but have not ridden for the last year because my bike is dead last. I try to bike as specialized Globe (http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=22059 ) Seems to be a pretty decent option, but more expensive than I would. Any opinions?

Please do not buy Iron Horse or Norco. They have heavy, poorly implemented frames and components under. A few bikes very similar to the Globe trades are the Trek 7000 series and the line of Giant Cypress. Both are hybrids. For the money, I would go with the giant cypresses. Aluminum frame and solid components into a large value. You can find a 2006 for about $ 300 or more. Also, if you buy in a bike shop, they will fit the bike to you and keep it a listen free account or a price dicounted. Good luck!
