Should I get a road bike or mountain bike?
Im going to commute to town. I live on dirt roads and it takes 3 miles to get off the dirt roads, the rest of the way is tarmac roads. Its rain alot. Should I get a mountain bike and put smooth tires when its not raining or should I get a road bike and put off road tires on it when it rains? How fast will a mountain bike go on smooth tires on tarmac roads?
yup, hybrid bike, great for commuting, i would put some thick tubes on it, and some tires with a bit of tread, just in case, some fenders would be nice for rain or wet roads,
if you already thought of a hybrid bike and dont like the idea, then i would probably go with the moutain bike, cyclocross bikes might work, but depending on your budget or conditions its up to you,
moutain if: it rains alot, the dirt gets reallllllyyyy muddy and nasty
road if: it doesnt rain too often, when it does not hard, and the dirt is still dirt, not mud. just put on some puncture resitant tubes on it, and some tires with bit of tread
cyclocross if: its inbetween the conditions i described for road and moutain
