I am looking for a commuting bike – need help!?
So i haven’t ridden a bike since HS. I am currently looking for a hybrid type bike to use mainly for commuting (about 12 miles round trip). I don’t think i will be using the bike everyday, but probably 3 day a week.
I have narrowed it down to two:
1. 2009 Trek 7.3 FX
2. 2008 Jamis Allegro 1
I have a had the opportunity to try the Trek but not the Jamis (tried the Coda), and both were nice. These two bikes are available at local bike shops and they are both on sale so they meet my budget (under $500).
I want an efficient bike, but on that can handle some abuse, so a road bike is really out of the question, plus they are to expensive.

I have been keeping an eye at Craigslist, but with no luck. I have seen good used bikes selling for more than the prices at some LBS so i am not holding my breath…
No steep hills in the area, but some minor ones.
Who says you can’t get a new rode bike for 500.00? I love my Schwinn I got. I since have put more money into it, but did I have to just to commute… Nah! I have tons of natural strength. People ask how I average 17+ miles per hour on the equipment I have. Now I wonder if i had a lighter bike, and better tire/wheels if I would be able to sustain over 20 mph…
