commuting pension
commuting write off’s- I am required to go to un-paid job training at another facility after work hours.?

I am a union employee in an apprenticeship program. I am required to go to the training facility 50 miles out of my way, two days a week after work and every other weekend. Training is unpaid, and does not count on my vested/pension hours. so i go to job 1 then drive to the training facility then home, adding 200 miles to my commute every week. can i write off the miles it takes from job 1 to the training facility?

i have a basic understanding of commuting write off policies by reading past posts but i found my situation to be unique

You have a principal place of work, and the training facility. Even though you are not paid for your time at the training facility, it would be a second work place since your employment requires you to go there.

Your transportation from your main job to the training facility is deductible. Your weekend trips to the training facility are also deductible. Report these expenses on Form 2106 and transfer them to Schedule A as miscellaneous deductions subject to 2% of AGI.
