what would be a good bike for some off road and commuting, like a hard tail, something within 300$?
I was thinking of the Raleigh Mojave 2.0 or the GT aggressor . But my mind is still open.

I must admit that I am not familiar with the models that you have listed and that I am partial to TREK. That being said I would recommend something in the TREK 7000 series, wouldn’t be afraid of a used one either. I personally have a 7200FX that has been on trails, pathways, and some places were there were supposed to be trails from Ontario Canada to southern Indiana. These typically have triple crank sets for plenty of gearing, I never see the small ring on the street but it sure is handy on steep trails. Another advantage is that the tires are 27mm wide; wide enough to cover some light terrain yet not so wide as to take the fun out of commuting. Mine is used for commuting year round.(Be sure to put lights on it for this.)
