College students who prefer commuting?
I’m currently a college student who has an apartment on campus, next semester I will return to commuting because I like it better. Are there any other ppl who actual prefer commuting to college, for reasons besides the monetary savings or am I one in a handful?
I don’t go to a community college, I go to Rutgers in New Jersey.
And I’m not a loser, I like to party, but I prefer to come back home every night after spending the day on campus
I just graduated from college in May 2008. It took me 5 years to finish. For 3 years, I lived in a dorm and/or off-campus apartment. The other 2 years, I commuted.
I preferred commuting more than living on campus. 1) It saves money, lots of money. You aren’t paying for housing and the meal plan. 2) My grades were better when I lived at home. At home, there is more stability and less chaos. 3) You don’t have to deal with dorm room drama when you live at home. Roommates, their habits, their friends, your neighbors who party to 4 am aren’t an issue when you live at home. 4) Home is clean. Dorms are dirty and you have a higher possibility of getting sick. 5) Home is where the heart is. You have your family, your friends, your dog. On campus, you have friends, but they don’t love you like your family or your dog does.
Overall, I was a happier person when I lived at home. I was healthier, less stressed out, more focused, had more money and did better in school.
The key to commuting is to have friends who live on campus. That way, you know people and can visit them. You’ll be able to go to the parties, hang out in the dorms and do normal “college things”. But, you’ll do them on the weekends and then get to go home to a nice, quiet environment.
