commuting to nyc from philadelphia
Considering a job offer in NYC. Can someone live off of 95k in Brooklyn and commute into NYC?

Can someone live off of 95k in Brooklyn and commute into NYC? This person currenly lives in Philadelphia. She is concerend that the standard of living in NYC is very high relative to Philly.
After taxes she will be making $4,300/month
Where would be a good place to live so, that she could get rid of her car? She is very enviornmentaly aware

That would be enough. A decent apartment in Brooklyn (no doorman building) should run under $2,000/month. Most parts of Bklyn are near a subway line, so a car is not necessary. While cost of living is high, it is not outrageous compared to other cities. Remember, NYC has thousands of municipal employees who live in the City on lower incomes than $95K. Search Craig’s List and you will find a good deal. Brooklyn Heights is one of the nicest parts of Blkn and is near the East River, so it is minutes from downtown Manhattan via Subway (literally 1 stop away). Park Slope, Williamsburgh, DUMBO are other trendy parts of Bkln. Check out this link for more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooklyn
