Exercising your brain

Staying fit is a great goal to help you live a longer, healthier life, but if your brain can not follow, so what's the point. The brain is a muscle too and it follows the same "use it or lose it" policy as other muscles. So how can you keep your brain? Brain exercise is the answer.

Two of the most important factors to keep your brain healthy are the traditional exercise and nutrition. Keep your body healthy and your brain will follow. But after that there are other ways to exercise your mind.

You probably heard people describe their elderly parents like that, Uncle Larry is a sharp as a tack, he did the New York Times crossword every day. "Well, Uncle Larry has the right idea, but its execution is a little off. You see the best way to stimulate your brain is to break free of daily activities and distrust in new and unexpected. Doing crossword puzzles every day, he created a familiar routine that becomes less difficult everyday life. Uncle Larry, it's time to add Word Search and Sudoku for some variety.

Activities to exercise your mind:

If you are right-handed, trying to brush your teeth with your left hand

* Try to do something with your eyes closed, like putting the key in the door before or walking to your fridge

* Try a different route on your commute

* Rebuilding Day in writing what you did. For example, if you make a trip to the zoo, when you get home you try to write all the animals you have seen in the order your saw.

Your mother may have told you that video games too many to turn your brain to mush, but it was wrong. The Nintendo DS Lite has a few games that are designed to exercise your brain and they are very good. They are varied enough to avoid becoming systematic and continues to challenge even after repeated playback. But the best part is they are fun to spend time with.

I recently played copy of my cousin Big Brain Academy on the Nintendo DS. The game involves a lot of puzzling fun as you try to finish within a period of time. Just as you get hit the puzzle is finished and there is a new try. When I finished the game informed me that my score is that of a hairdresser.

If you try to fight effects of aging, exercise your body is great, but remember to exercise your mind.
