Where in Miami should we live?
I have a job downtown, and my wife will stay at home mom with our 7-month old. We’re looking for safe, kid-friendly, nice apartment (2 or 3BR) with an easy commute to downtown using public transport. So far this looks like Brickell or Coral Gables, but not the the beach, which seems loud place to live with baby. Any thoughts? <$2k/month in rent. Thanks!
Brickell (high rise — medium to expensive), South Miami, (mostly single family homes — expensive) Kendall (all variations & all price classes & wide availability) are all family friendly and on the Metro-rail line. Coral Gables (very expensive) has good access to the airport but downtown access sucks. If you’re Latino Little Havana & SW Miami have some great close in areas. But you gotta speak Spanish & like arepas. If you hate Spanish, there’s Aventura way up north; (mostly high rise) but only bumper to bumper access to downtown.
Miami Beach is actually not a bad place for kids. Head over there & you’ll find lots of young families with small children & they all speak English. Health, recreation & shopping facilities are excellent & convenient & much of it is walkable. The places where the “real people” live are not the noisy tourist areas. Commuting is bumper to bumper by car — but its not far to downtown. And it’s one of the few places where bus service to downtown is convenient.
