florida commuter rail
Is Florida implementing its consitutional amendment to provide high-speed rail transportation?

How much more prosperous would Florida become with affordable, convenient transportation that links our largest economic areas together like this? This would be a step forward in efficient transportation for travelers, visitors, commuters and improve the quality of life and economy of the state. What do the people want?

Do you know what it would cost to build a high-speed rail link between Miami and Orlando? It would cost billions for the right-of-ways alone, and the construction of the rail link would cost evwn more.

Florida is too congested to run a rail link between Miami and Orlando. Besides, how does someone get from the railroad station to Disney or SeaWorld? And how do they then get from the attraction to their hotel (unless they stay at the resort)? This is an idea that might have been feasible 25 years ago, but not now. I bet those who promoted this own a lot of land through which a high-speed rail link would have to go, so the state would have to buy their land. Some entrepreneurs are well known for proposing projects, including roads, that will have to go through land they own. A piece of land that might be worth $150,000 as is might be worth $1.5 million if the state has to buy it to get a right-of-way.

We already have Tri-Rail, which runs from north of Boca Raton to Miami. As gas prices have gone up, increasing numbers of people have been using it. But, overall, it’s still deep in the red. If I want to go to Orlando, I will drive the four hours-plus so I don’t have to rent a car and stay in a resort hotel. Do you know what it would cost to take a cab from Disney to Gatorland? The attractions don’t have low-cost shuttles to take you from one place to another. They want you to stay there.
