Which ones better? R6 or R1?
I’m looking to buy a bike. I’ve ridden dirt bikes my whole life but this will be my first sport bike. I want to get either a Yamaha YZF-R6 or an R1. I’m torn between the 2 and I need an opinion from someone who isn’t giving me a sales pitch. Keep in mind that I learn really fast and I’m not new to motorcycles. I want a bike that is fast and stylish. That’s why I’ve chosen between these two. I also looked at the CBR1000 and the GSX model line. I’ve always ridden Yamaha dirt bikes so I figured I’d go with a Yamaha sport bike. I’m looking to buy pre owned too. I looked at a few online and it seems that 05’s are around $6000 right now. My riding buddy has a 95′ CBR900. I want to be able to keep up with him without a problem. Possibly even blow him off the road. If you could please help me decide. Having also made the jump from dirtbikes to rockets, I can tell you from experience get a 600 to learn the ropes on. With your ditbike experience you will have an understanding of powerbands but alot of things are different. The literbikes have a bit too much power to just jump on one and not dump it while learning. Insurance will kill you on either of these bikes, expect to pay $2000-$3000 a year and that’s without any tickets, which are easy to get with these bikes.
