What is the penalty in Calfornia for not placing a license plate on new car? It’s been over a year!?
My model is still current, and the car looks brand new without plates. Plus, I get to ride the toll roads for free!
What worries me is if I get pulled over, is it a HUGE fine? It’s not like I legitimately pulled the plates OFF my car, because they were never on to begin with. I was just negligent about placing them on my car in a timely manner. Does the law view intent vs negligence differently in this circumstance? Any info would be greatly appreciated– thanks!
It’s a fix it ticket. If you don’t put the plates on your car I think it’s something like a $30 fine or something around there. If you put a plate on and get it signed off then it’s only $10.
Personally I don’t see how it can be legal to sell a car without 2 plates. By law, anyone selling a car (except those that are registered nonoperational) has to ensure the car meets all legal requirements. That’s why a person selling a car is required to make sure the car would pass smog. Anyway, why are car dealerships and previous owners required to make sure there are 2 plates on the car?
President Obama said that penalties are appropriate
