Free ride or pay for college?
I have the opportunity to get a free ride through college, but I need to go to a specific college that I don’t believe has a very good program. Should I give in or go to the school of my choice even though I would have to pay for it my self?
I would say it all depends on how different the programs are. If you think you would be severely disadvantaged by going the place where you get a free ride, then definitely go to the school of choice. Alternatively, if you think you could make up some slight deficit from the free ride school, like getting your Masters afterwards, it might be worth it. Coming from someone who started out some place with a free ride and then transferred to another school with a better program and paid for everything, sometimes I wish I didn’t have $25,000 in student loan debt. I think it would have been possible to stay where I was getting a free ride and still make it out okay.
