Jersey city or Hoboken or Brooklyn ? I am moving to NY and searched apartments. I am ready to pay about 1800
My office is in Manhattan, and based on preliminary search these are few areas I can afford, and still have hip life (my assumption). I am 25 and would preferably want to live in a diverse and young community. I know best choice is Manhattan but its too out of my range. Any advise on rent, commute, parking, and livability ? Any further tips/suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
ignore the “hoboken was just voted the #1 place for young professionals”. People who cannot read say that. It has the highest percent of over 30 singles, and somehow it got translated into the above.
With that said, it is a nice place, but it is not the city. It is a pain to get to at night (you will always be taking something to the path train to get home). I would vote for Brooklyn (I live in Hoboken now, but I do it for family reasons, if I were still single, I would choose brooklyn).
Last thing you want to have to do at 2am is wait for the subway to transfer to another subway, to get off and walk to the path, have to wait there, and then get from the path to your place (for $1800 I doubt you will be living close to the path entrance in Hoboken).
If I were you I would actually get a bunch of roommates and live in Manhattan. You will not be in your place much, you will be out all of the time.
