hull commuter boat
What size diesel pump is necessary to power a 20-ft displacement hull jet boat?

I am building commuter boats at the moment for the Otago Harbour in southern NZ, the more the merrier.
Latest idea: Get a displacement hull and power it with a diesel pump, to get a jet drive (good for crossing the sandbanks at low tide, and to allow the boat to sit on the mud if the water recedes).
But just what kind of pump would work? I need to get the displacement boat up to about 8 knots.

The idea is good only problem is the pickups on the bottom of the boat an the pump will suck the sand an mud destroying the pump & housing. This is the issue with jet drives. Think about arnesen surface drive as there not under the boats bottom??
