Where is a good apartment complex within 45 minutes of downtown Detroit?
My husband, son and I are looking for a possible move to Detroit in the coming months. (My husband is in the final interviews for a job there and we intend, in case) We do not want to live in the city, but he does not want to commute more than 45 minutes. What cities do you recommend, and that the apartment buildings you can recommend? Whatever the price is right, we just want to know some opinions. Thank you!
All suburbs and apartment complexes have really would be essentially all in 45 of the city. All have shopping malls, restaurants, everything you might need. Contrary to what the first response said, Southfield is not a big city – lots of crime. Downriver is the cheapest probably. Sterotypically known where Hillbillies came to live, ie, Taylor, MI is known as the Taylor-tucky. Nice variety. Macomb County is probably the next cheapest. Blue collar atmosphere, relatively free. Not many minorities. Decent, not great schools. Oakland County is where the money is – Novi, West Bloomfield, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills – all the high-rent districts – is the place where beautiful people live. Great schools. The western suburbs are very nice too – Livonia, Northville, Plymouth, Canton – very nice and strong enough – too much traffic in the township for my taste, but many options for living. Schools are well above average state test. The suburbs of Wayne, Westland, Garden City personally I stay away from. Not the best schools. You can check the apartments that Edward Rose Construction built / operate. They are generally large complexes with many options: http://www.edwardrose.com/activek/content.asp?s=&contentid=3018
