Have you heard of the invisible children and do you think that there movement is effective.?
The invisible children are the children of uganda. They are night commuters. Every morning they walk home from a safe place to sleep. Usually a city street and every night they walk back to that safe place. They do this so they will not be kidnapped by the LRA and forced to fight in the war that has been raging on for more than 20 years. The girls go to stay away from the LRA in fear of being brutally raped. If the children escape they will be tortured and killed if they are found. These kids are little 7 and 8 year olds are being kidnapped and fighting a war.
The movement is sending money and making jobs for the people threw a bracelet campaign and writing letters in hopes that the government will stop the way. They rescently (in april) had a night commute where around 80,000 people walked into cities and slept on the streets. Do you think this movement will be effective?

I would have to say no, I don’t think the movement will be terribly effective. My family and I have lived and worked in Uganda for over ten years, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that no one thing can change the way things are. As touching as the movement is, I think the majority of people involved in it are simply trying to feel better about themselves. In my opinion, the only thing that will be effective is force, in the long run. President Museveni is not declaring war on the LRA for political reasons, and it makes me mad. The invisible children movement is, as far as I know, doing nothing to improve situations. Uganda has consistently been the kind of place that charity organizations and things like that have poured money into, and, just as consistently, that money has fallen into the hands of con artists. So, speaking as someone with first-hand experience, I say no, it will not be effective. I sure hope I’m wrong though!
