Is there any way to write off commuting miles?
Unfortunatly I have been forced to take a job about 90 miles from my home. I have to drive back and forth every day (just two days a week). I am not considered self employed, and my employer is offering no compensation for my driving time or mileage.
Is there anyway to claim this mileage (or some other deduction) on my taxes? I am pretty sure you can’t claim commuting miles, but I thought maybe someone would know a loophole. It would sure help since I am in Cali and gas is almost 5.00 a gallon!
Thanks!
I wish I could move or find a job closer to home. With the housing market the way it is I can’t sell my house. I can’t find work in town because I am a nurse, and our hospitals are laying off nursing staff because California has decided to cut its medicare budget.
Of all the professions out there I never thought nurses would be laid off or have this much trouble finding work!
Nope. Commuting is not deductible. Even when you’re self-employed – mileage to and from a regular, daily place of business is not deductible mileage. Either move to closer to your job, or find a job closer to home to save money.
