not commuter
Why doesn’t Metro North build another commuter train station north of Poughkeepsie?

Ideally, a new commuter station should be built in either Hyde Park or the Town of Poughkeepsie (north of Marist College) to take away the congestion and lack of parking at the Poughkeepsie Train Station on Main Street.
I was only talking of a station in the immediate area north of Poughkeepsie, either in the town of Poughkeepsie or Hyde Park.

My understanding is that Metro North is restricted in the area they can serve. Beyond Poughkeepsie, train service is provided by Amtrak.

Could this be changed? Sure, if both Amtrak and Metro North sat down and talked. Your best bet is to send a letter to your New York State Assemblyman and put forward the idea. Be aware that it the new station is north of Poughkeepsie, it would be the new “end of the line” for Metro North, which would probably mean a larger station with special facilities needed for such a station.
