What’s the cheapest way to go from Washington DC or Baltimore, MD to Hartford, CT using public transportation?
The greyhound simply isn’t worth the price. Does anyone know of a different bus line that’s cheaper? Or if amtrak would be cheaper?
Megabus would be the cheapest travel method.
From DC/Baltimore, hop on a Megabus/Eastern Travel bus to NYC. This will cost you under $20 depending on your departure date (the further away from today, the cheaper)

At NYC, you need to make your way to Penn Station to catch a Boston bound bus with a stop at Hartford. You’ll be dropped off near the Convention Center. This leg will cost no more than $15.

go to megabus.com or call 877-GO-2-MEGA (50 cent reservation fee via internet, $3 fee via phone)
If you’re willing to pay a little bit more for comfort, Amtrak does have non stop/one stop (in New Haven) for $54-$72 depending on day, since you didn’t specify a date for travel. If you have a Student Advantage card, you can get 15% off that fare, 10% off with AAA card. Its the same fare price from either DC or Baltimore, with the difference being length of trip. Train takes under 6.5 hours, compared to 7.5-8 on bus.
Good luck! Message me with any questions.
