public transportation boston massachusetts
Help me find public transportation from MA to Long Island, New York – PLEASE.?

I’m a girl from Massachusetts and, unfortunately, my boyfriend lives 200 miles away. I haven’t seen him since July and now that I’m on winter break I finally have the chance. My mother works most of the time and does not want to drive 4 hours to southern Connecticut to find a ferry.

My question for you all… can you help me find public transportation from Massachusetts to Long Island? Anywhere central to eastern Mass is preferable. Boston area would be great. I’d rather not go to New York City since I’d be alone with luggage and I don’t know the area well since I’ve only been there once. If this is the only method possible, then I’m absolutely fine with it. Cheap and safe, please.

This will mean the world to me. I’ve been in a long distance relationship for the past 5 years, going from 3000 miles to 200 when he moved. We love each other very much and otherwise may not be able to see each other for another 6 months. Help two kids completely in love?

When I went to Boston U, I would take the Amtrak train to Penn Station, or to Grand Central Station.
Penn Station is easier, as it is one level above the Long Island Railroad.
Grand Central requires taking a Taxi to 34th Street, and then taking the Long Island Railroad.

There really is not alot to be worried about if you take Amtrak to Penn Stationas you will not be in the city that much…you go down one level (about 20 steps), and you are at the railroad station…It really is not going to be that dangerous, and there are police around that area. If you go during the daytime, you will not have a major problem, honestly.

You can also take Amtrak to the New London, CT transportation center and take the ferry from there across the sound, and not have to worry about your mother driving you there.

Also, I sometimes would take Greyhound to the Port Authority building, and then take
a taxi to Penn Station,

Also, you may want to go to one of the student unions – BU, Harvard, MIT, and see who is offering rides or ask for rides and have someone contact you. Many LI kids go to Boston area schools, although they are right now on vacation break. I frequently was able to get a ride from someone, and all it cost me was sharing gas and tolls.

It is not that expensive to fly from Logan to LaGuardia, or Kennedy, or to Islip airport, which is on Long Island. Use Delta, American or, I think, United.

If your b/f lives in Nassau County, it is not that long a trip to LaGuardia or Kennedy by car if he wants to drive, or Executive Limo is great and they meet you at the airport if you need. If you call in the town car and not the stretchm, it is not alot of money.

It depends, of course, where on Long Island he lives, as the Island is several hours to go from one end all the way east to the other.

That covers the major ways…
