Using public transportation while disabled?
I am in a full leg cast and use crutches. I used the Rapid Transit (somewhat similar to a subway) to go to downtown Cleveland recently. A man graciously offered me a seat but I declined – not wanting anyone to trip over my cast which would be in the aisle. I felt very badly for him as I explained my reason for not sitting, but he did not understand or chose not to. Is a woman, either disable or not compelled to accept such offers. I take my situation in stride, but incidents such as this make my curse my situation. Or, am I too sensitive?
No, you are not compelled to accept such offers. Just say “I cannot sit for medical reasons” and leave it at that.
