I would like to know about public transportation into NYC from outlying areas.?
We are traveling the first week in November to see a filming of the People’s Court. We plan to fly into Newark as it is cheaper than flying into LaGuardia or JFK. We have looked at hotels in Manhattan, and the rates are very high. We have toyed with the idea of staying elsewhere and taking the train into Manhattan. I would like to know from locals where to stay and also how reliable is the public transportation into Manhattan? Thanks for all suggestions.
My friend, depending on your budget may I recommend the link below. From either Jersey City or Newark, you can take the train into New York City.
In Jersey City, you can take the PATH train, inter-urban commuter train that runs between New York City and Hoboken, Jersey City and Newark. The fare is a $1.75 each way and trip take between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on distance.
From downtown Newark, you can take either NJ Transit to Penn Station New York or the PATH train to New York City. Again, the fare on the PATH is $1.75, and the a round trip off peak ticket on NJ Transit will coast about $7.
From Newark-Liberty Airport, you can take any eastbound NJ Transit train to either Newark or Hoboken and transfer to the PATH train into the city, or you can take the any eastbound NJ Transit train to Penn Station New York. The fare from EWR are as follow:
EWR to Penn Station New York — $15
EWR to Newark Penn Station — $7.75
EWR to Hoboken Terminal — $7.75
PATH train from either Hoboken or Newark Penn Station to NYC $1.75
