public transportation long beach ca
Oceanside, CA vacation?

I have the opportunity to stay at my Sister’s timeshare resort. The week of the 14th of April thru the 18th of april. There is one in Oceanside. What is there to do? Other than the beach? Are there good but not too expensive places to eat nearby? And do I need to rent a car? Or is there reliable public transportation available? What to do if I choose not to stay at the beach all day? Like in case the weather turns? How long does it take to drive or get to San Diego? Is there transportation from Oceanside? Any helpful suggestions or info is appreciated, Thank you.

There aren’t a lot of great restaurants in Oceanside, we usually end up going to Carlsbad or east to San Marcos for dinner. A couple of nice ones are Anita’s (Mexican) and Azafran (Cuban), both on Coast Highway. Most everything else is fairly ordinary. There is a transit center south of the pier with Amtrak, Metrolink, the Coaster and the Sprinter trains all operating out of there. The Coaster is a commuter train, but can get you to downtown in an hour or Old Town in 45 minutes and is pretty reasonable. The link attached will give you prices and schedules for the Coaster & the Sprinter. It’s about 40 miles south to downtown & the Gaslamp area. If you drive, avoid rush hour. From the same transit center, the 101 bus takes a coastal route that can get you to the Torrey Pines area in about an hour. Other than the beach, Oceanside doesn’t have a lot to offer for visitors. It should be nice next week, upper 60s each day. Enjoy your trip!
