How do I get from Philadelphia to Newark Penn Station on a weekend?
On Google Maps I searched how to get from 30th Street Station to Newark Penn Station using public transportation. It showed me which trains to take, which is what I wanted, but when I changed the date to a weekend time it did not show me how to get there! Am I still able to take the same train route that it showed during the week or is there a different train schedule?
The schedule may be different, but whether you were using Amtrak or the SEPTA R7 and New Jersey Transit, they all run on weekends.
Amtrak is pretty much the same schedule every day. Only a few trains differ. You could use http://www.amtrak.com to find the schedule.
The cheap way is using Philadelphia’s SEPTA (commuter) R7 train to Trenton, then the NJ Transit to Newark. The R7 is scheduled to arrive a few minutes before an NJT train and usually you just cross the platform when you get to Trenton. Of course, trains are often late.
The PDF version of the R7 schedule includes the timing of the NJT train to Newark and New York, and shows weekends as well as weekdays.
