question about public transportation from Miami airport ?
we’ll be staying in a hotel near the international airport to save some money ( Hilton Miami airport or Embassy Suites or Doubletree Miami/Mart) , without a car, is it easy to get to downtown miami?. Is it safe?
I don’t think riding the Metrorail or the Metromover are dangerous. You’re a tourist in a city, so of course you need to have your guard up. Yes, “the locals” use public transportation, but that’s why it’s there! You can get on the Metrorail for $2 a person (they also have 7-day “visitor passes” that could save you money) each way. Take it to the Government Center (downtown) where you can transfer to the Metromover (FREE!), which will take you all around downtown Miami.
However, taking the Metrobus around town isn’t the easiest thing to do. It doesn’t always follow the schedule, and spending a long time waiting at the curb is not the best way to spend your vacation. I wouldn’t recommend it.
If you can afford it, at least get a hotel that’s close to a Metrorail station. Try hotels near the Dadeland, South Miami, Coral Gables, and Brickel stations. Make sure you compare the hotel’s location with the location of stations. Some hotels will claim to be “close” to a station, when it’s actually quite a lengthy walk!
