Do you have any advice for a young woman moving to NYC… ?
I’m going to be transfering to a college in staten island. The thing is i really don’t know the area too well. I’m not so good with directions, new to public transportation, and going to be in a place where i have no relatives to hang out with and help me adjust to a large city like this.
I want to get a head start and learn all i have to learn about how to get around, how survive New york.
If you have any advice or a recommendation on a book or guide that can help me out, please tell.
Than you.
Well if you’re in Staten Island I find it to be very similar to your average suburban area (maybe a little more urban than most, but still) what you want to look into is transportation into Manhattan…you can do this by bus, by car, or by ferry. The best advice for any young girl going out on her own, is to try to always be aware of your surroundings…I think it’s also a good idea to let people know where you’re going, and maybe always call someone at a certain time during the day, so if for some reason (god forbid) something should ever happen to you, they’d sort of have a heads up. Also make sure to have emergency contact numbers in your phone, maybe write down your address in your phone until you get it down and try to travel in groups if it’s late at night. Good luck!
