I want to live in Boston. Any suggestions as to an affordable area, not in a “bad area”, close to amenities?
I’ve lived on the West Coast all of my life, in the SF Bay Area. I’ve traveled to the East Coast a few times and decided I want to persue living there. I’ve been to Manhattan (New York), New Jersey, Washington DC, Maryland and through parts of Delaware.
I’ve never been to Boston, but I plan on visiting before I move. I just need/want some suggestions as to where to look so I can make the most out of my visit. I’d like to live/work in the same area so I could utilize public transportation and rarely use my car.
I don’t mind living in tight quarters, but it can’t be TOO expensive… not sure what kind of a job I’ll land so I’m trying to stick with what I could afford on the salary I have now – since the Bay Area is considered one of the most expensive areas to live just as Boston is… I feel like I have a good idea of what things will cost. Apartments can be anywhere between 800-1200 and at most most, 1,300 per month for a lease.
Any suggestions?
Just like SF, it’s rather difficult to be simultaneously affordable and close to everything. If you’re fairly young and don’t mind being around rowdy college students, anywhere in Allston would fit the bill. Ditto with
Sommervile near the orange line T stops.
The Fenway, Cambridge, Brookline, and the South End are the best areas (though very different) IMO. You’d probably find a hard time finding a place on that budget unless you’re OK with getting a roomate and sharing a place, or just having a studio.
