public transportation seattle
How is the public transportation in Seattle?

In particular, the LinkTrain and bus systems? As I prefer not have a rental car when I go there.

BQ: Could you get by without a car there?

It depends on where you are and where you want to go.

The city is long from north to south and narrow from east to west. To the west is Puget Sound and to the east is Lake Washington.

If you want to remain in the core “downtown” area, it is not really that large an area so it is easy to get around by either walking or taking a bus.

Outside the downtown area there are numerous neighborhoods that are connected to the bus system, but depending on where you are and where you are going it can take numerous transfers from one bus to another and a considerable amount of time to get from one place to another.

The LinkTrain currently serves only the areas from the city center to the south including a stop near the airport in Tukwila that is served by a shuttle bus from the airport. There is also a Sounder Train that runs between Seattle and Tacoma and Seattle and Everett.

BQ: If you stay in the downtown area or one of the nearby neighborhoods you can easily get by without a car. The futher you get away from the city center the less convenient it can become to get where you want to go without a car.
