In global statistics for death and injury on public transportation, which is safer, train vs plane?
second question. in public transport (not freight), which has the least accidents, train or plane?
Since the inception of flight, trains have always garnered this coveted prize. and not just over planes. buses, ships, aswell. while buses come a close second. i dont believe i have ever heard of an “all fatality” rail accident. yet very few (if ever) walk away from plane accidents. unfortunately, the safety records are inherent in the way these two business are operated. while both transport passengers, only one leaves the ground, carries highly explosive fuel, and is highly susseptable to weather variations.
Railroads have over a century now lived by the creedo “Safety First”. you wont find those kinda warnings plastered on planes. an interesting statistic that cause these failures are for railroad, mostly human prone mistakes. while in aviation is mechanical failures. you can really break this one down alot of ways. but your end result will always be the same…. take the train!
