Moving from Montreal to Ottawa, just for 2 years of study. Should I get a car?
Hi there,
Hoping to hear from someone who has maybe done the same thing. I’m moving to Ottawa next August, from Montreal, to pursue a master’s degree. My significant other has to stay in Montreal, which will mean a lot of traveling back and forth. Not to mention my social life is in Montreal. I’m trying to figure out whether, on a student budget, it would be better to try to eke it out with public transport, ride shares, buses and trains, or whether I should bite the bullet and get a cheapo car. I shouldn’t pay much insurance as I’m 25, female, and have a 10 year old clean driving record.
Thanks for your help!
It’s about $40 round trip on Greyhound, and there’s a bus every hour between the cities.
The price for ride sharing is about $20. I know a girl who did it a few times and she got along fine.
I would say don’t get a car, if you choose your apartment carefully you can choose to live close to transit routes that run regularly to the bus and train stations.
