In the Smoky Hills of north-central plains of High near Phillipsburg, Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge was Kansas' first such federal sanctuary. The shelter of wood, mixed with meadows, lakes and farmlands provide habitat for hares, prairie dogs and black-tailed mule deer. Kirwin population feathers is amazing, too. Sand Hills State Park is a unique attraction in south-central north of Hutchinson, Kansas. With a series of dunes forty dating from the end of an era ice, the sand prairie was formed when winds deposited sand from the Arkansas River. The hills of sand were then anchored by the roots of native prairie grasses, appear more typical East Coast American territory of the country average.
