What is the cheapest way to travel from Washington DC to Cleveland? (roundtrip: under $100)?

A friend wants to visit me(I live in Cleveland) from Washington DC this week. It’s very frustrating because there are so many cheap ways to get from DC to cities like NYC, Boston, or Philadelphia, but no cheap way to get to Cleveland. I know it’s not as important as these other cities, but it’s not that far from DC. I have tried everything–Greyhound is ridiculously expensive and it seems to be the only bus line that travels from DC to Cleveland. Airplane tickets are expensive and I can’t find a good share-a-ride type sites. He needs to find something for less than $100.

Does your friend have a car? If they do, they could drive to Cleveland. According to Mapquest’s fuel calculator (not sure of the accuracey…I put that your friend’s car would get 20 miles/gallon), it would cost $71.90 roundtrip to travel from Washington D.C. to Cleveland. Other than driving, it sounds like there is no cheaper way. Good luck!
