if methane can be used as a fuel why aren’t we using that?
from what i understand it’s methane gas that is the #1 cause of the green house effect. large pockets of methane gas is what causing alot of the scare,right?i saw a television show on the discovery channel where a woman was in alaska talking about global warming. she paddles out into the middle of this pond with nothing but a stick and a crude thing she used to collect methane(a piece of plastic and some 20oz. bottles).she pokes the stick into the mud at the bottom of the pond to release methane bubbles, and then puts her collection device over the bubbles. the bubbles force the water out of the bottles and then she lights the gas coming out of the bottle and it stays lit.USE METHANE FOR FUEL AND SAVE THE PLANET? AND MY WALLET.any answers on why aren’t we using methane for vehicle fuel?
Actually methane is not too good for vehicle fuel, because it is a gas, and you have to either refrigerate it to get it to a liquid state, or store it under a lot of pressure. both of these methods have problems.
But it could be used to replace natural gas for delivery to homes for heating.
Without an analysis, I suspect it is just not economical to collect the methane that is stored in lake and ocean bottoms. Perhaps it will be as oil and gas prices rise.
