What is purpose of the white line to the left of the double yellow line in the carpool lane?
On Southern Cal. Freeways like the 405 and others, some times there is a white line to the immidiate left of the Solid Double Yellow Line. Does this meen i can get out of the carpool lane whenever i want? What is it?
The white line is used to designate an adjacent space/lane with traffic NOT going in the opposing direction; that is that the adjacent space is for traffic going the same direction, or, is not moving, ie like a shoulder next to the far right lane.
The white line is a US Road designation standard.
You are not supposed to enter/exit the car pool lane unless the solid yellow goes away for a while.
